Charles Perkins Soccer Academy
The Charles Perkins Soccer Academy is a Macarthur FC initiative which aims to contribute to reconciliation by bridging the gap between football and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The Academy’s vision is to contribute to reconciliation by providing opportunities for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples both on and off-the-field.
The establishment of the Academy will help recognise the potential of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to contribute to the game.
Programs and activities
As part of their participation, students involved will have access to personal development and leadership learning opportunities and be encouraged to support their communities by coaching a junior team, helping with Elders or tutoring young students.
The Academy’s programs, community initiatives and activities will grow overtime and include pioneering an Indigenous football round and celebrating National Reconciliation Week with the football community.
In its first year (2020), the Academy and its board will have a laser-like focus on developing core programs:
- Training Camps
- Charles Perkins Soccer Academy Scholarship
How to get involved
The Academy will create a real impact in people’s lives by both serving the interests of Indigenous players across Australia and celebrating the diversity that is so much a part of Australian life.
