Match Report – Milicic: “We got what we deserved”

Milicic v Mariners

Macarthur FC have fallen 2-0 to the Central Coast Mariners in the clubs history making first home match at Campbelltown Stadium.

Coming off the high of Wednesday nights win over Wanderers, the Bulls were full of confidence heading into Sunday’s match with the Mariners, only to be out enthused on their home pitch by a hungry visiting team.

Macarthur FC Head Coach Ante Milicic didn’t mince his words at full time.

“We wasted 45 minutes (opening 45 minutes).”

“It was a slow tempered game, we didn’t shift the ball, we were very lethargic, we didn’t do enough to break that block not enough movement.” Milicic said.

“The first 45 minutes were slow. They got behind the ball and they were very direct. We spoke and work on this during the week. The goals were disappointing as it was something we’d spoken about in the lead up.”

“In front of our home fans for the first occasion, this was a missed opportunity for us.” Milicic added.

Speaking on the cowbells Milicic said: “The cowbells were fine, they were great, but they didn’t ring enough because we didn’t give them anything to cheer about.”

“We planned to take Markel off at half time, Jovanovic off at 60 minutes, we stuck to the plan. I’m the type of coach that won’t change it in round two chasing the scoreboard.”

“Millsy (Mark Milligan) won’t accept us being down for too long. They boys are disappointed in the change room, but we’ll look to put in a good three or four days on the training paddock and prepare well for Wellington.”

“Wellington are a very good side – Ufuk has done a tremendous job and full credit to him.”

“It’ll be a difficult game, but we’ll review this one and look to put a better performance. We have a second chance, straight away at home to get it right.” Milicic said.
